WestHerr Slack Command
The West Herr Slack Command was developed to address the need for quicker and more efficient communication within the West Herr automotive group. This custom Slack shortcut was specifically designed to integrate their dealer systems with Slack, making it easier for employees to access and share deal information without leaving the platform they use most frequently.
When an employee types in a deal number using the shortcut, the command automatically retrieves the relevant data from the dealer systems and populates it into the Slack message. This functionality not only saves time but also reduces the likelihood of errors associated with manual data entry. The integration ensures that crucial deal information is readily available and can be communicated swiftly among team members.

My Role
As a junior developer at Helm, I had the opportunity to take the lead on the West Herr Slack Command project, serving as the primary developer responsible for bringing this tool to life. My role involved designing and implementing the entire system, from conceptualizing how the command would function within Slack to integrating it with West Herr’s dealer systems.
I focused on creating a seamless user experience, ensuring that the command was easy to use and reliably pulled accurate data from the dealer systems. This required careful planning and coding to make sure the system was both efficient and secure. Additionally, I collaborated with team members to test and refine the tool, making sure it met the specific needs of West Herr employees.
This project was a significant milestone in my career, as it allowed me to demonstrate my ability to lead the development of a practical and impactful tool. The success of the West Herr Slack Command reinforced my skills in both backend integration and user-focused design, and it highlighted my capacity to take on complex projects as a junior developer.
