Cruise Ducks

Image

Inspired by the playful tradition of hiding rubber ducks on cruise ships for others to find, Cruise Ducks is a web app that enhances this delightful experience by creating a digital community for cruise-goers. The app allows users to log their duck discoveries, share stories, and express gratitude to those who left the ducks behind. Users can mark where they found their duck on a map, track its journey, and decide whether to keep it as a souvenir or re-hide it for others to find.

Cruise Ducks also features a social aspect, where users can connect with fellow cruisers, exchange messages, and follow the adventures of specific ducks as they travel from ship to ship. The app is designed to add an extra layer of fun to the cruising experience, making it easy for people to share their discoveries and connect with others who share the same enthusiasm for this quirky, shipboard tradition.

My Role

As the creator and lead developer of Cruise Ducks, I was responsible for every aspect of the project, from conceptualization to deployment. The idea stemmed from my own experiences on cruises, where I noticed the growing trend of hiding and finding rubber ducks. I wanted to create a platform that not only celebrated this unique tradition but also brought the community together in a meaningful way. I designed and developed the web app using modern web technologies, ensuring it was user-friendly and accessible on all devices. My role included creating the user interface, implementing the map-based tracking system, and developing the backend infrastructure to handle user accounts, duck logging, and messaging features. I also focused on creating a seamless experience that encourages users to share their stories and connect with others, making Cruise Ducks a vibrant and engaging platform for cruise enthusiasts.
