Chef Remy was created as a capstone project for the Grace Hopper Program at Fullstack Academy, developed by a team of four female developers passionate about combining technology with everyday convenience. The app is designed to help users make the most of the ingredients they already have, reducing food waste and simplifying meal planning.

Chef Remy allows users to scan grocery receipts using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, which automatically adds the purchased items to their digital pantry inventory. The app then integrates with a food API to suggest recipes based on the ingredients available in the pantry. This smart meal-planning assistant ensures that users can easily find delicious recipes without needing to make additional grocery trips. Additionally, Chef Remy integrates with Amazon Alexa, allowing users to manage their inventory through voice commands. You can add or remove items from your pantry using Alexa, making the app even more convenient and hands-free.

My Role

As a key member of the Chef Remy development team, I took on the role of the sole developer for the Amazon Alexa integration, creating a voice-controlled interface that allows users to manage their pantry inventory with ease. This feature enables users to add or remove items from their inventory using simple voice commands, providing a seamless and hands-free experience.

In addition to developing the Alexa app, I was responsible for the inventory tracking system, ensuring that items scanned through OCR were accurately logged and managed within the app. I also handled the integration between the inventory system and the food API, which allowed the app to generate personalized recipe suggestions based on the user’s current pantry contents.

Working on Chef Remy as part of a collaborative team was an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to apply my technical skills while contributing to a project that has real-world applications. The app showcases my ability to work on complex integrations and highlights my focus on creating practical solutions that enhance everyday life.
